Chris Floyd: Disaster Planning, Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Mitigation

Have you ever visited the website Disaster Resistant Commuties Group? If not, you should know that it’s an incredible resource for disaster planning and preparedness, response, recovery, and training.

When I asked Chris why he’s started this website, he told me: «In October 2012 the Just In Time Disaster Training Library was launched to provide easy access to the nations disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery videos. The library began with a selection of less than 100 videos and has grown to include over 1,900 meaningful videos from local, regional, state, federal and international organizations. Each day over 4,000 individuals access the library».

The library is divided into 4 categories and several subsections so it’s very easy to find what you’re looking for!

Todd de Voe: Emergency & Business Continuity Manager

In April of this year, Todd launched EmWeekly, a website about emergency management. As he says, he «started EM Weekly to be a place where emergency management and first responder professionals have a community of collaboration. A place where we can learn from each other by best practices and share ideas».

As you will see, the website is divided into 3 sections: Weekly news, blog, and podcast. Make sure to especially visit the Podcast Section to find out all the interviews Todd did with different emergency managers.

Paul Lloyd: Regional Emergency Management Officerd

If you like to follow people that share pictures and articles about public safety and emergency management, you should start following him right away. When I asked Paul why he likes to use LinkedIn to share information with public safety professionals, he answered:

«With 28 years in Emergency Services and the last six as an Emergency Manager I am passionate about community safety and the people that work tirelessly to keep them safe. LinkedIn allows me to share the significant amount of positive community safety work from New South Wales, Australia and around the world. I am constantly amazed by the great work Emergency Managers do and have felt their work is often misunderstood, undervalued or not visual to the wider community. My aim is to raise awareness. Personally this forum allows me to work locally but think globally – learn, share and grow professionally. Being inspired by the people around me allows me to stay focused, value the team and remain personally resilient to constant changes».

Interested in following other great emergency managers? Go take a look at these accounts chosen by Paul Lloyd, that he considers as inspiring public safety professionals!
